THE ONE WITH THE ESSENTIAL AND THE COOL BABY PRODUCTS

Its really weird how priorities change all the sudden. Generally I am person who is obsessed with researching, I always research and research whenever an idea even crosses my mind, one time I got so crazy that I actually researched the process of hat making and I started making my own hat, the project crumbled because I couldn't find the essential fabrics in Egypt cause Egypt is not a country where hats are popular, but seriously, I got so close. :D . You can actually ask me a question about the hat making process and I would give you a very adequate answer.

So, since I am expecting soon, all my priorities and interests now are headed towards babies, their products, their psychology, and all the details regarding them starting from their growth stages inside the womb, to their birth *ugh*, to their habits and how to raise them...etc.

Because bottom line, I want the best for my child, and in order to make such decisions I have to know all the options and learn what does the world have to offer. And since we live in a time where things evolve so quickly, I should be updated as a mother and pick what's best for my baby. So combine the maternal instinct plus the nerd inside me and you get a nerdy, weird gadget picker, obsessed freak a.k.a Salma Ghanem. :D

Anyhow, I am here today to talk about a few things that I stumbled upon that I some find very cool and other are very essential, as least to me.

  • The sleep sheep by Cloud B:

This is a soothing gadget as it produces 4 calming sounds, one of them resembles the mother's heart beat, to create the illusion that you are near when your are actually not. Also babies don't like to sleep in a completely silent environment, there has to be a white sound, therefore this toy is very helpful if you are planning to make your baby sleep in a separate room from the beginning. It has a back attachment to hang on the side of the bed and not end up on the baby's face. There is another one without the night cap. The only difference that the one with the cap has a motion sensor that detects the baby's movement and starts up on its own. I didn't get mine yet as I plan to have layla with us in the same room for the 1st few month and until she has own nursery as our lives is pretty hectic now, and we are moving around ALOT. But I highly recommend this. There are also other shapes like giraffe.. etc. Check the Cloud B website for more.

  • The nursing pillow:

Al-right, in my opinion this is a must, whether you'll choose to breastfeed or bottle feed your baby, you have to get and here is why. Pregnancy is exhausting but we all have to go through it and there is absolutely nothing we can do about it to make it easier. On the other hand, taking care of a baby is even more exhausting but the good news is, there are actually some things you can do to make your life a little bit easier. A nursing pillow is one of them, it hold your supports you arms while you hold your baby closer to you for a feed, while you can lean back a bit and relax your back. That will relive tons of stress from your arms and back, cause do you know how many times does a newborn feed a day during his 1st month?? about every 2-3 hours. And how long does the one feed take? Up to 45 minutes!! So you do the maths of how many hours will your arms be fixed in the flexed positions carrying at least a 2.5-3 kg baby :D . Plus it will help you bond with your baby by bringing him closer to you.
So please, get yourself a nursing pillow and make your life a little bit easier, cause you deserve it. Found in all baby stores like mamas and papas or mothercare.

  • The breathing monitor:

This gadget is attached to the baby's nappy, and monitors his breathing, if he stops breathing for 15 seconds, it vibrates in order to wake him up and make him breath again. If he still doesn't move it produces a sound to alert the parents to come and check on him. All of this is to prevent something called SIDS which is a short for "Sudden Infant Death Syndrome". It's a syndrome more common in the western countries as they tend to make babies sleep in separate rooms straight away,
which is one of the risk factors. It also has several other risk factors as the child sleeping next to a smoker parent, putting the baby on very soft mattress..etc. You can actually read about it more online. Anyways, if you intend not to have the baby in the same room as you in the 1st few weeks, I highly recommend this device. Found on amazon or official website of snuza

  • The bath thermometer:

This is really essential as lots of moms come to the A&E every day with their baby's bums burned cause the bath was too hot and they didn't know. This frogy one is cute but they come in many shapes in most pharmacies and kids stores like mamas and papas, mother care and Babies r us. this one in the picture is from Babies R us

  • The pacifier thermometer:

Its a well known fact that babies will get sick no matter how good a mum you are, so having a thermometer at home is essential, cause fever is dangerous. Regular old thermometers are usually stuck in the tushy, but this one is so cool, cause it looks like a pacifier, which make the process so much easier and lets face it. YUCKY free ;) . Its from a baby product company called summer infant.

  • The squirty spoon:
This is not one of the essentials but DEFIANTLY one of the cool. It's a spoon attached to a bag to squirt purees into your baby's mouth without the messy action. It's from Boon

  • The selfwarming feeding bottle:

YES, the name says it all. The first feeding bottle in the World that warms milk up to the recommended 37°C (body temperature) in about 4 minutes. No electricity, no cord, no limitations.iiamo go can be disassembled completely making it very easy to clean. This is defiantly cool.Found on amazon ,ebay and official Iiamo website.

  • The bottle steriliser:
If you are planning on exclusive breastfeeding then you have saved yourself a lot of headache, especially if you are a stay at home mom. As for me, yes I plan on breastfeeding but I am not a stay at home mum plus my life style necessitates that I have to leave my baby with my mum or mum in-law at times, so a breast pump for me is essential and so I got it with the bottles. Hence, a steriliser is important. Either you choose the simple one, the microwave one or the electric one. Its all a matter of personal preference. Just make sure its BPA free. I got the philips avent 3 in 1 electric steam steriliser.

Well, that's a wrap for today's post hope i was helpful. If you have any enquiries you know where to find me ;) just press on my contact page.
Lots of love.xx

THE ONE WITH THE "SYMPHYSIS PUBIS DYSFUNCTION"

I had a pretty hectic 2 years, and i completely forgot about this blog, Well, to sum it up, I got married and currently 33+ weeks pregnant. and as I said this is a random blog, so most probably what its all gonna talk about from now on is pregnancy, babies, fashion, and baby fashion...etc.

Today I would like to talk about a pregnancy horror I have been facing lately, a condition called "symphysis pubis dysfunction", cause I'm really suffering from and surprisingly no one ever mentioned this to me when I 1st got pregnant !! with all the crappy stories they tell us about pregnancy, they forget to mention THIS!!!!!!
While your pregnant, your body produces a hormone called "relaxine" which works on relaxing your joints , especially that ones in your pelvic to aid for an easier labour. Sometimes the hormones over works itself and can relax a joint called "symphysis pubic" which is located just under you
r pubic area, and cause it to loosen and separate more than the normal range, this can cause excruciating pains, limit your ability to lift your leg off the floor (let alone walk), makes it extremely painful to role in bed, or get up from the bed, u can even hear cracking sound coming from under your belly. Long story short, its almost as being paralysed plus the pain. I have researched a lot, and found a few solutions to the problem, it doesn't completely go away OBVIOUSLY, but makes more tolerable until you have your baby.1) is called SPD support band, which helps snuggling your SP joint as close as possible and so minimizing the pain. U can research where to get it exactly or you can buy it over ebay or amazon (u can almost find anything u want there😍) or the other cheaper option or if you can't get ur hand hands on that, is the tying your low waist area with a compression band , just like the one u tie your sprain ankle or wrist with. Just make sure its snug enough , but not tight as not to cut your blood supply or hurt u. I personally tried it, and it works wonders, and i'm planning on buying the band soon as I'm afraid I might get bigger as the baby descends its head to engagement.
2) physiotherapy which is very helpful, just make sure you wear the belt after it fix the alignment of the joint after the physiotherapy. I"ll post a link to a very helpful youtube video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVW7lalrwxE

3) is pain killer a.k.a paracetamol ONLY, if its just too much for you, but I honestly avoid taking meds as much as possible.
Hope that was helpful, for moms to be who is suffering as im πŸ™ˆ, but motherhood is worth the pain, isn't it? ☺️
Have a lovely day 😘
